The crash happened at around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in Bay Shore, at the intersection of Richland Boulevard and Howells Road, according to Suffolk County Police.

Investigators said a 48-year-old Bay Shore man was driving a Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Richland Avenue when he stopped at a stop sign at Howells Road.

As he drove through the intersection, he was struck on the passenger side by a Kawasaki motorcycle heading westbound.

The operator of the motorcycle, 52-year-old William Burke, of Bay Shore, was later pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital, police said.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and performed CPR on Burke until medics arrived.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
